Najika is good at cooking and it’s her dream to be a famous pastry chef like her parents were. When she was younger, a boy saved her from drowning and gave her some flan. She named him her “Flan Prince” and wants to see him again. Now she’s been accepted into Seika Academy. Her goal is to find her Flan Prince there. But when she gets to Seika Academy, no one wants anything to do with her. Some of her classmates even try numerous things to try to get her kicked out. The only ones who seem to care about her are the Director’s sons, Daichi and Sora. Is either of them her Flan Prince?
Najika is a 13 year old girl who’s had to deal with the loss of her parents at a very young age. She later in the series had to deal with another loss and towards the end, almost another one. You can’t help but sympathize with her from what she’s had to go through so far in her life. But despite that, she’s very optimistic. She’s also caring, selfless, and sweet.
Ever since her parents died, Najika has grown up at “Lavendar House” in Hokkaido, Japan and has been raised by Hagio Sensei. Right after her parents died, she was very upset and almost drowned. Luckily she was saved by someone. Afterward, he gave her some flan to cheer her up and get her to stop crying. That was her “Flan Prince.” All she has of him is a spoon. Recently, she found out that the logo on the spoon is unique to Seika Academy, an academy in Tokyo. So she studied hard and got in. In her free time, she cooks at Fujita Diner, a diner on the school grounds that has become her special place. She also spends her time with Sora and Daichi. And later on in the series, she makes another friend, who she hangs out with. The entire series is centered around her search for her Flan Prince, who’s revealed at the very end.
Kitchen Princess was an interesting series. Each book made me want to read the next and I never got bored with it. Cooking was a large theme in the series. Each chapter is centered around a dish. I’m not usually that interested in books about food/cooking, but I really liked this series. The romance part was cute and it left you guessing who her Flan Prince was until the end.
Kitchen Princess was a great series. I recommend it to anyone looking for a manga series about romance or cooking.
